Polyethylene Containers

Apogee produces stock and custom PE containers for various types of industries ranging from RTD and multi serve Beverage Containers, Industrial, Automotive, Pharmaceutical and Personal care/Cosmetic. We have various stock molds that can produce bottle sizes ranging from 2oz to 2 gallons.

HDPE– High-Density Polyethylene.  HDPE is stronger and has higher tensile strength than LDPE. The difference in strength exceeds the difference in density, giving HDPE a higher specific strenght. It is also harder and more opaque and can withstand somewhat higher temperatures (120 °C/ 248 °F for short periods, 110 °C /230 °F continuously).

HDPE is resistant to many different solvents and has a wide variety of applications, including:

  • Juice and dietary bottles
  • Oil Containers
  • Oil Additives
  • Vitamin Packers
  • Energy Shots
  • Laundry detergent containers
  • Dairy and low acid containers / jugs

HDPE does not contain PVC and Polycarbonate associated Bisphenol A.  HDPE has advantages over glass, metal and cardboard.

LDPE – Low-Density Polyethylene.   LDPE containers can withstand temperatures of 80 °C continuously and 95 °C for a short time. Made in translucent or opaque variations, it is quite flexible, and tough but breakable.

LDPE has more branching on about 2% of the carbon atoms than HDPE, so its intermolecular forces are weaker, and its tensile strength is  lower.  However its resilence is higher. Also, since its molecules are less tightly packed and less crystalline because of the side branches, its density is lower.
Chemical resistance

  • Excellent resistance to dilute and concentrated acids, alcohols, bases and esters.
  • Good resistance to ketones, aldehydes and vegetable oils.
  • Limited resistance to aliphatic and aromatic hydrocarbons, mineral oils and oxidizing agents.

LDPE is widely used for manufacturing various containers, dispensing bottles and wash bottles such as general purpose containers, Beverage and Food storage and laboratory containers.  As LDPE is relatively soft and pliable – it is recommended for those containers that require flexibility and dispensing.
Application

  • Juice and milk containers
  • Good impact resistance
  • Extremely flexible
  • Easily cleaned
  • Thermoforming performance
  • Meets food handling guidelines
  • No moisture absorption
  • Chemical-and corrosion-resistant

PP – PolyPropylene
, is a thermoplastic polymer and used in a wide variety of applications where temperature and clarity are a consideration. PP is relatively rugged and unusually resistant to many chemical solvents, bases and acids. It is the perfect container for hot temperatures, as it can withstand the heat.
